ABOUT THE COURSE

The Delhi School of Economics is one of India’s premier institutes of higher learning. The school was launched in 1949 by V.K.R.V. Rao, with the support of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. It grew out of a vision that a newly independent nation, which aspired to social and economic progress, needed a vibrant centre for advanced studies in the social sciences. The department of economics, along with its sister departments of geography and sociology, has produced many of the country’s leading academics, educators, administrators, policy makers, corporate leaders and journalists. Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and the late Sukhamoy Chakravarty, one of the architects of India’s Five Year Plans, have all taught here.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Delhi School of Economics MA (Economics) Admission 2021

DSE offers MA in Economics at PG level. The duration of course is 2-years. Admission is done via Direct/Merit mode or through Admission test.

Delhi School of Economics MA (Economics) Eligibility 

  • Direct/ Merit Mode: BA (Hons) Economics degree form DU with at least 60% marks in aggregate.

  • Admission Test Mode: UG/ PG degree from DU with at least 605 marks in aggregate or first Division or equivalent CGPA.

Delhi School of Economics MA (Economics) Selection Criteria

  • Admission to the course is done on the basis of the candidate's performance in the past qualifying exam and entrance exam.

  • Only the candidates who have qualified the entrance exam are eligible to apply for Merit seats. 

  • The entrance exam will contain objective type questions and there will be negative marking for wrong answers. 

  • The exam will evaluate candidates on the basis of microeconomic theory, macroeconomic theory, mathematical techniques and probability, statistics & elementary econometrics

  • Students applying for MA Economics should score 40% (General Category), 36% (OBC) and 20% (SC/ST) in the entrance exam to qualify

  • Separate merit lists will be put up for the reserved and general categories to be admitted through the Entrance Test and through Direct Admissions.

  • The admission of students to the course will be provisional and will be confirmed by the Admission Committee of the University only after verification of the original certificates.

Delhi School of Economics offers the following courses at the UG level:

  • BA (General)

  • BA (Hons) Economics 

Delhi School of Economics UG Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must have 10+2 qualification with a minimum of 45% marks.

  • 40% marks is required for BA (General) course in 10+2

  • Students appearing for their finals can also apply.

Delhi School of Economics UG Selection Criteria

Admission to the program is based on merit secured in the qualifying exam.

Delhi School of Economics M.Phil/PhD (Economics) Admission 2021

Delhi School of Economics acts as a research center for the Delhi University and offers following PhD and M.Phil in Economics.

Eligibility Criteria: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in a relevant field with a minimum of 55% marks.

Delhi School of Economics M.Phil/Ph.D. Selection Criteria

  • Admission to M.Phil and PhD is based on the entrance exam.

  • The shortlisted candidates need to appear in both written and oral assessment that test student’s research aptitude, knowledge of economics and synopsis of research test

  • Candidates who have cleared a national level examination like CSIR/UGC-NET Including JRF), DBT-JRF, ICMR-JRF, DST-INSPIRE may appear for an interview without appearing in the departmental entrance test.

EXAM PATTERN

  • Total Marks: 120

  • Total Questions: 40

  • Test Duration: 120 minutes

  • Marking System: For each question, you will get 3 marks if you choose only the best answer; 0 mark if you choose none of the answers. However, if you choose something other than the best answer or if you choose multiple answers, then you will get -1 mark for that question.
